No, gnarwl does not require any extended priveleges at all, but of course it needs access to it's own files and should therefore be installed under it's own UID. Keep in mind, that gnarwl.cfg as well as gnarwl's homedirectory (may) contain sensible data. So care should be taken concerning file ownership and permission.
