I think, I have a major face palm coming my way. For the last couple of weeks I have been wondering why ads for browser games are becoming rampant on my website, severely cutting into my bottom line. I have tried banning them, I have tried rephrasing pages. No luck. The situation just got worse. Even after practically stripping the pages in question naked, they kept coming.
And then the scales fell from my eyes. The site slogan! When I first set up Drupal on this webserver, I also came up with this silly slogan for it, just to fill the form with something and never thought about it again. Big surprise. The site slogan is, of course, displayed on top of the page and guess what, it's suitable for the gaming niche. Boy, do I feel stupid. I guess, I need to come up with a better slogan.
Update:Seems like like my problems were not only the fault of the slogan. After looking into the matter more closely, I noticed, that most of my projects featured a box with a donation link, which was entitled "buy me a beer". Apparently that box made a very strong keyword suggestion, classifying the according pages as adult material and scaring away the well paying advertisers. The original slogan "digital gems in a virtual world" then obviously was strong enough to attract banners for browser games.
