This section deals with structural elements, commonly found on many blogs and is meant to be a work of reference on how to implement these features. It is not intended to be a to-do list of things that must be supported. Remember, that things, working well on some blogs do not necessarily work equally well on others and might only cause distraction on behalf of the visitor.
The important thing to keep in mind is to choose wisely which concepts to support and which ones to skip. The human mind is only capable of paying attention to a limited amount of different objects at the same time. Offering more will just be perceived as clutter. The rule of thumb here is to not exceed more than seven visually/functional distinct areas/units per page without a good reason.
Furthermore, it is important to be aware of the fact, that most page elements perform database queries. Database queries always add a small performance penalty and therefore slow the site down.
