Claiming inerrancy puts, if the word is to have any meaning at all, two demands on the table:
- The word of god is of superior morality.
- The word of god does not contradict itself.
With these two premises we can put the bible to the test and the bigots back into their place, if we can find at least one contradiction.
To the non-believer it should not come as a surprise that there are in fact plenty of contradictions in the bible. The real problem with inconsistencies in scriptures is not that they are hard to find, but that their sheer number makes them hard to remember.
The PDF document, attached to this pages contains a collection of bible references especially selected for being in violation with both of the aforementioned premises. The PDF can be printed out, cut in three individual pieces and be added as a bookmark for the King James version.
The bible bookmark is grouped in blocks, each addressing a different moral aspect and each block starting with a (more or less) agreeable verse, followed by one or more contradicting verses. The verses are only given as a reference in order to invite readers to look them up in context and come to their own conclusions.
The bookmark is meant to serve either as a cheat sheet for non believers or a primer for critical thinking that can be slipped into holy books.
